Indian food safety violations prompt foreign regulators to restrict product sales

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has sanctioned prosecution against an Indian biscuit manufacturer after an inspection found that cattle-feed bran was being used as a fibre source in biscuit manufacturing, alongside hygiene and storage deficiencies. The company’s FSSAI licence had been suspended.

Separately, Nepal has banned the import, sale and distribution of the manufacturer’s biscuits and ordered a recall of existing stocks over food safety concerns. The case highlights how domestic food safety enforcement can have cross-border consequences, prompting foreign regulators to take independent action to protect consumers.
