Karnataka government allows third-party agencies to assist with regulatory inspections

The Karnataka Government has reportedly directed departments facing staff shortages to engage authorised third-party agencies to conduct inspections, audits and certifications within prescribed timelines. The initiative covers Legal Metrology, Food Safety and Drugs Administration, and the Department of Factories and Boilers.

However, outsourcing does not transfer statutory enforcement powers to private agencies. Powers to collect food and drug samples, seize goods and initiate prosecutions will remain with government officials. Departments will use agency reports to identify high-risk establishments for targeted enforcement.
