Tech-giant develops AI tool that mimics doctors’ step-by-step diagnostic process

Researchers of a tech-giant have reportedly developed an AI system that progressively gathers patient history, evaluates examination findings, recommends investigations and updates diagnostic hypotheses.  The entity plans to test the tool for triage in emergency department waiting rooms. In India, AI software intended for medical diagnosis may qualify as a medical device under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017, depending on its intended purpose and functionality. Commercial deployment may therefore require applicable licensing and evidence of safety and performance, including software validation and clinical evidence.
