NMC warns doctors against unauthorised use and promotion of stem cell therapy

The National Medical Commission has reiterated that stem cell therapy may be offered as routine clinical care only for approved indications under applicable ICMR/DHR/MoHFW guidelines. Any unauthorised administration, prescription, promotion or advertisement beyond these indications may constitute professional misconduct and attract disciplinary action following due process. The advisory strengthens regulatory oversight of stem cell therapies and reinforces that uses beyond approved indications must remain within an appropriately approved clinical research framework.
