NMC proposes centralised tracking of doctors’ disciplinary records

The National Medical Commission has proposed linking the National Medical Register with State Medical Registers to centrally track doctors’ licence status, suspensions, removals and other disciplinary actions pursuant to draft Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine (Amendment) Regulations, 2026,. The proposed system aims to ensure that disciplinary action taken in one State is visible nationally and cannot be circumvented by practising elsewhere.
