Keralam proposes legislation to regulate private hospital charges and improve billing transparency

The Keralam Government reportedly plans to introduce legislation to regulate charges levied by private hospitals, with a proposed committee tasked with preparing a draft Bill for consideration by the State Legislative Assembly. The proposed framework is intended to improve transparency in hospital billing and address the cost of medicines, diagnostic tests, room rent and medical procedures.

The proposal remains at the preparatory stage; the reported announcement does not establish any new binding price controls on private hospitals. If enacted, the legislation could introduce additional obligations concerning pricing transparency and patient billing.
