India’s Maharashtra bans analogue paneer for a year, citing health risk

Maharashtra's FDA Commissioner has banned manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of analogue/non-dairy paneer statewide for one year under Section 30(2)(a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Food service establishments must not use, prepare, serve, store, sell, or present analogue/non-dairy paneer as genuine paneer, as doing so is misleading to consumers and constitutes an unfair trade practice. Any contravention of this Order shall be punishable under the applicable penal provisions of the FSS Act, 2006.
