Government formally notifies 16 indigenous livestock and dog breeds

India's Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has formally notified 16 livestock and dog breeds for specified States and nationwide purposes, for animal husbandry, breeding, conservation, production and trade. Building on ICAR’s breed-registration process, the notification strengthens official breed recognition. For livestock businesses, breeders and traders, this can improve breed identification, support targeted breeding and conservation programmes, and help establish clearer breed-specific market positioning.
