FSSAI proposes tea-specific residue limits for Acetamiprid and Imidacloprid

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has proposed amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011, prescribing maximum residue limits (MRLs) in tea of 20 mg/kg for acetamiprid and 50 mg/kg for imidacloprid. Stakeholders may submit objections or suggestions within 60 days of the draft notification’s publication. The proposed limits would establish tea-specific pesticide residue standards, with implications for tea producers, processors and testing laboratories’ residue monitoring and compliance practices.
